Jared Sislin

Today we are highlighting Jared Sislin, a talented professional photographer. Having grown up in Dana Point, Jared’s work was greatly influenced by our rich surf culture and beach lifestyle. Today Jared continues to capture shots of what inspired him at an early age, and also photographs weddings, special events, and more! Enjoy our interview with him below:

Interview:

Visit Dana Point: For those who don’t know about your business, would you please describe who you are and what you offer?

Jared: Hi my name is Jared Sislin. I am 26 years old and have been a professional photographer for over 10 years now. I started my career in surf photography when I was 14 years old. Many of my images were published in magazines worldwide, and I was a featured artist at the Mint Fine Art Gallery in San Clemente for years.

While attending Dana Hills High School, I was awarded a scholarship from the Art A Fair Foundation in Laguna Beach which included a booth at the Art A Fair. After graduating high school I attended the School of Photography at Orange Coast College where I received the Virgilio (JR) Dobluis Memorial Photography Award. While I was attending college, I assisted my friend Robert Sebree, who is one of the most famous celebrity photographers in Hollywood. We would shoot with many different celebrities and professional athletes. After college, I started to focus on Wedding & Special Event Photography.

Visit Dana Point: Can you talk about when you decided to start your own business and what inspired you?

Jared: I first started shooting surfing photos at the age of 14 at Salt Creek Beach, in Dana Point, where I grew up. What started out as a hobby quickly became a passion and I haven’t put the camera down since.

Visit Dana Point: What are the biggest rewards as a business owner? Or one of your proudest moments?

Jared: I am honored whenever a client chooses me to photograph their special occasion, whether it’s a wedding, family portraits, maternity shoots, corporate functions, etc. I am also proud when clients choose to hang my artwork in their home. I love the fact that the images that I capture in the ocean end up on someone’s wall and make them as happy as it made me when I took the photo.

Visit Dana Point: Where do you see your business in the future?

Jared: I see myself shooting more destination weddings and traveling the world, capturing images, and sharing them.

Visit Dana Point: When you’re not working, what is your favorite thing to do in Dana Point?

Jared: I love to surf at Salt Creek and also walk my dog with my girlfriend in the harbor. My parents grew up in Dana Point and I feel lucky that I’ve got to grow up in such a beautiful environment and can also share the beauty through my images.
