Sales & Marketing Manager
Visit Dana Point

Summary of Position

The Sales & Marketing Manager is responsible for overseeing all marketing, promotional, and public relations efforts of Visit Dana Point (VDP), as well as helping to drive visitation, hotel occupancy and revenue at the Dana Point Hotels. This position will promote Dana Point as a place to stay overnight for consumer, leisure, and group/meeting segments and participate in sales activities designed to achieve these goals. This position demands prior marketing experience, familiarity with integrated marketing
and sales campaigns, public relations, social media, and brand strategy. Knowledge of Dana Point and the local community is a plus.

Core Responsibilities
• Develops and implements VDP’s leisure and group/meeting marketing strategies, including
budgeting, advertising, creative design, public relations, media, digital and website;

• Partners with area hotels to help create successful sales plans that are focused on both leisure and meetings industries;

• Coordinates media events, FAM tours, and in-market activations;

• Oversees relationships with VDP’s strategic agencies (website, content, creative, PR, media);

• Creates co-op sales & marketing programs and promotions with hotels and local businesses to further promote Dana Point as an overnight destination;

• Manages consumer and industry advertising campaigns and media strategy;

• Plans and designs collateral materials, including VDP merchandise, sales presentations, trade show booths, videography, photography, and presentation slides;

• Manages the implementation of digital initiatives, including e-newsletters, banner
advertisements, and seasonal marketing campaigns;

• Oversees domestic and international public relations efforts to maximize earned media;

• Develops new content in line with the organization’s brand architecture, tone, and voice;

• Creates and manages the content calendar, as relates to advertising, social media, press releases, messaging, etc.;

• Manages the destination website, keeping it up to date, with fresh content, design, and
technology and oversees the website agency;

• Monitors agency performance as relates to SEO, SEM, keywords, and other KPI’s;

• Develops the social media strategy, including development of owned content, user-generated content, paid social media advertising campaigns and sponsored content;

• Analyzes consumer data, STR, competitive set and industry research to develop marketing and PR strategies that have the highest ROI;

• Uses research to create campaigns and identify equitable markets and target growth markets;

• Supports the Executive Director with presentations and being the voice of the destination;

• Maintains a working relationship with TBID resort sales and marketing teams;

• Attends community events on behalf of the organization when needed;

• Works with strategic agencies to coordinate monthly reporting;

• Remains engaged in the marketing, advertising, and tourism industries trends to bring new and modern technology and opportunities to management to consider.

General Requirements.

• Positive outlook and ability to be creative and passionate about on promoting Dana Point as a tourism and meeting destination.

• Minimum of four years senior level marketing and/or sales experience;

• Experience with a destination marketing organization (DMO/CVB), hotel, and/or convention center a plus;

• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field or 7 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. Master’s degree and/or credentials preferred;

• Experience in destination marketing, planning, budgeting, and meetings industry;

• Experience in partnering with sales teams and collaborating with them to help them achieve their sales goals;

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including public speaking and reporting to committees and boards;

• Must be goal oriented and be able to work independently;

• Knowledge of Dana Point and/or other Southern California beach destinations;

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, SEO, SEM, vendor management, graphic design and cloud-based CRM databases;

• Valid CA driver’s license and proof of insurance required.

Work Environment
The Sales & Marketing Manager may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet. Position requires lifting up to 40lbs, sitting, walking and other activities

This position is full time and does include benefits including health insurance, 3% retirement match, PTO and other benefits as outlined in the offer agreement. Position may require travel, a flexible schedule including working weekends and evening hours when necessary. Position is based in Dana Point.

Salary range: $75,000 to $90,000 based on experience.
