Pack the cooler and head to Doheny State Beach for a classic Southern California Fourth of July celebration. With 13 picnic areas equipped with grills, it’s the perfect place to host a family barbecue or check out some of our local restaurants that offer sandwiches or to go picnic style offerings. DOHO Cafe is located at Doheny State Beach and offers food, drink, and sit down service. Be sure to reserve your picnic area in advance, as they fill up quickly for the holiday.
For active beachgoers, Doheny’s reservable sand volleyball courts offer a fun way to spend the afternoon. Surf rentals are also available from Girl in the Curl at DOHO CAFE Rental Area. Families with younger children may prefer Baby Beach, where the calm, protected waters inside Dana Point Harbor provide a safe and relaxing place to swim and play.

Back to Top of ListAs the sun begins to set, the excitement builds for one of Dana Point’s most beloved traditions. The celebration kicks off with a WWII military flyover at approximately 5:50 p.m., honoring the nation’s history and service members.
Then at 9:00 p.m., The City of Dana Point Fireworks will launch from a barge just offshore of Doheny State Beach, illuminating the coastline in a dazzling display of color and light. Watch the fireworks from the shore, a local point of interest, a harbor cruise through one of our local whale watching companies, or one of our hotels that have a view from their location.
