Dana Point is known for its easy-going nature, so it should be of no surprise that getting around this surfer’s haven is just as carefree and relaxed.

Exploring all that Dana Point has to offer through its conservation areas, hiking, mountain biking, pedestrian pathways, and even the trolley, is a sure-fire way to understand and appreciate the love and pride that locals have for this storied area and its rich surfing past.

So, how do you get around Dana Point?

Getting Around Dana Point on Foot

Dana Point is proud to be pedestrian-friendly. We like to say that if it can’t be done in flip-flops, it’s not worth doing. You can definitely explore Dana Point on foot, in flip flops.

Locals will recommend the quickest routes, such as hopping on one of Dana Point’s many pedestrian pathways, which follow the Pacific Ocean coastline, so you can really take in the area’s beauty and watch the sunset on the beach. The Coast Highway Protected Trail is just one local favorite. It is about two miles and is open to pedestrians and bicyclists. It parallels Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and ends at the intersection of PCH and Camino Capistrano.

Bluff Top Trail is another enchanting cliff-side pathway that rewards visitors with astounding views of Dana Point. Bluff Top Trail is perched above Dana Point Harbor, where you can view the harbor’s magnificence and the surrounding areas from a bird’s eye view. Bluff Top Trail is a historical area that leads along Dana Point’s 150-foot high bluffs. The trail is a short distance and easy to manage.

Don’t forget to check out The Dana Point Pedestrian Bridge, either! This was a major part of the PCH Traffic Congestion Relief Project, which included many street improvements in addition to the award-winning pedestrian bridge that spans Pacific Coast Highway.

Getting Around Dana Point Using Uber or Lyft

Rideshare service, such as Uber and Lyft, are widely used in Dana Point. There’s no need to drive if you don’t want to. Rideshare services are a great way to get to and from dinner or get your cooler down to the beach.

Remember to ask your Uber or Lyft drivers about their favorite beaches, restaurants and surf spots. The locals of Dana Point love to share their favorite parts of the city with visitors because when you’re here, they want you to feel like you’re home.

The Dana Point Trolley and Public Transportation

Once you arrive in Dana Point, getting around town is really simple, especially through Dana Point’s favorite mode of transportation during the summer: the free Dana Point Summer Trolley Service that runs through Labor Day. You can also ride the Metrolink or hop on an Orange County Bus through the OCTA.
